Gap Dash looks simple: steer left and right and don't hit the walls. But the road speeds up, the gaps shrink, and Dash's tyres don't stop on a dime. These tips will help you go further and fill the garage faster.
Steering tips
Tap, don't hold
Dash builds up speed while you hold a direction and keeps sliding for a moment after you let go. Short taps give you far more control than holding a key down, especially in narrow gaps.
Look one wall ahead
By the time a wall is close, it's often too late to cross the screen. Glance at the next gap as soon as you clear the current one and start drifting towards it early.
Every gap is reachable
New gaps are only placed as far sideways as Dash can actually travel before the wall arrives. If you start moving straight away, you can always make it.
Let go to slow down
Releasing the key brakes Dash smoothly. Aim to release just before you're lined up with the gap, so you slide neatly into the middle instead of overshooting.
Use both thumbs on phones
Hold the left or right half of the game to steer. Resting one thumb on each side lets you switch direction instantly, which matters once the road is fast.
Restart in a flash
On a computer, press Space or Enter on the game-over screen to jump straight back in. Short sessions add up to a lot of coins.
How the difficulty works
Knowing what's coming makes it far less scary:
- Walls 1–50: the road speeds up steadily, and the gaps get a little narrower with every wall.
- Around wall 46: gaps reach their narrowest size. From here they don't get any tighter.
- Wall 50 onwards: the speed stops increasing. If you can handle wall 50, you can keep going as long as your focus lasts.
- Wall 100 onwards: random 2× boosts start appearing (see below).
So the toughest stretch to learn is walls 40 to 50. Once that feels comfortable, big scores come quickly.
Making the most of 2× boosts
After you pass wall 100, a 2× boost can switch on at random. The track glows gold, "2× POINTS" flashes up, and a countdown bar appears under your score. Each boost lasts between 3 and 5 seconds, and there's always at least a 6-second break before the next one can start.
During a boost, every wall is worth 2 points and 2 coins. Don't change how you play: crashing on a boost costs you far more than the extra coins are worth.
Coin planner
Every wall you pass earns 1 coin, even if you crash soon after. Here's roughly how many games each unlock takes if you usually reach 20 walls, or 40 walls, per game.
| Item | Type | Price | Games at 20 walls | Games at 40 walls |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sunbeam | Car | 25 | ~1 | ~1 |
| Coral | Car | 60 | ~3 | ~2 |
| Sky | Car | 120 | ~6 | ~3 |
| Sparks | Trail | 150 | ~8 | ~4 |
| Asphalt | Track | 200 | ~10 | ~5 |
| Violet | Car | 250 | ~12 | ~6 |
| Pixel smoke | Trail | 300 | ~15 | ~8 |
| Deep sea | Track | 400 | ~20 | ~10 |
| Glass | Car | 450 | ~22 | ~11 |
| Nitro | Trail | 600 | ~30 | ~15 |
| Blueprint | Track | 700 | ~35 | ~18 |
| Rainbow | Car | 900 | ~45 | ~22 |
| Neon | Track | 1,100 | ~55 | ~28 |
| Prism streaks | Trail | 1,200 | ~60 | ~30 |
| Solid gold | Car | 1,800 | ~90 | ~45 |
Tip: the cheap paint jobs (Sunbeam and Coral) are quick wins. Save up for Nitro or the Neon track if you want something that really stands out.
Keep your coins safe
Coins are saved on the device you play on. If you clear your browser data or switch to another phone or computer, they won't come with you, unless you sign in. A free account saves your coins, unlocks and best score so they follow you everywhere.
